Carrier Oils

It is necessary for essential oils to be diluted in order to work effectively, and this is why Carrier Oils are required. Applying essential oils “neat,” that is without dilution, no matter which brand of essential oils you're using, can lead to skin sensitization or allergic reactions caused by the high concentration of essential oils.

Diluting with a carrier oil before applying to the skin minimizes adverse reactions and systemic toxicity. Undiluted can cause severe irritation, sensitization, redness or burning or other reactions in some individuals. Adverse skin reactions are obvious when they happen, but systemic toxicities may not be so obvious for months or years.

Aside from enhancing skin’s absorption of essential oils, Carrier Oils offer therapeutic properties through their beneficial components, including nourishing constituents that our bodies cannot produce on their own, such as essential fatty acids.

Carrier oils are derived from the fatty portion of a plant, usually from the seeds, kernels or the nuts.

Use caution when trying carrier oils on the skin or in the hair for the first time. People with nut allergies should consult their medical practitioner before coming into contact with nut oils, butters or other nut products.
