While Wintergreen is a main component in the flavour of root beer, this oil is also used as a flavouring for toothpaste and chewing gum. EXTREME CAUTION should be used with this oil (especially around children), as it is considered toxic, and is not recommended to be used in aromatherapy. Recommended for use externally as a liniment.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A middle note with a strong aroma, Wintergreen has a characteristic sweet and minty scent similar to Sweet Birch, a main component in the flavour of root beer, with spicy tones.
Blends With: Birch Sweet, Lavender, Marjoram, Peppermint, Vanilla, and Ylang-ylang.

Shelf Life: 5-6 Years. Shelf life can be extended with proper storage. Store in a cool, dark place or refrigerate.
Cautions: Do not use in the vicinity of children under the age of 10 years. Recommend usage for over the age of 18. Recommend avoid using during pregnancy. Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided. This product should not be used by anyone who has broken, irritated or sensitive skin. Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or under the care of a medical practitioner unless advised by your doctor. Again, avoid use around children under 10.
Those with the following health conditions are recommended to be advised by a physician: cancer, epilepsy, heart-related ailments, skin disorders, hormone-related ailments, allergies to salicylates aspirin, asthma or nasal polyps, blood clotting disorders, sensitive skin, and connective tissue disorders.
Individuals that are taking prescription drugs, undergoing major surgery, or who are at a greater risk of experiencing strokes, heart attacks, atherosclerosis, or seizures are also advised to seek medical consultation prior to use. Wintergreen Oil should not be applied to open wounds or broken skin, as this may facilitate the oil’s penetration into the body in concentrations that may be toxic.
This oil WILL inhibit blood clotting; consult your physician prior to use if you are being treated for the following:
- you are on blood thinners, such as coumadin (warfarin)
- you have hemophilia or other bleeding disorders
- you are prone to bloody noses
- you are going to have surgery
For occasional use only up to one time per day. This oil is toxic and is not recommended for use in aromatherapy; recommended for use externally as a liniment.
1% = 1 drop per teaspoon of carrier oil (5 ml) or 5-6 drops per ounce.
